I stopped by the local Auto Zone to buy a set of jumper cables, I had a nice set made out of welding leads, maybe 40ish years ago. Somebody decided they needed them worse than I did, so I bought a set of 2 gauge cables with some nice clamps on them.

Anyway, I roll up in my M1009 and a guy walks up and tells me he has two of those in his yard. Knowing of no other running M1009 in the county, besides my other one... I asked him where he lived. Someplace in Oklahoma, but he lacked the proper accent. I told him I have two M1009s and a M1008. He said he had two M1008s as well. He was driving a hammered old Jeep Grand Cherokee Chief.

Knowing they were a great driving vehicle, I could see driving it over a M1009, but this one was rough, really rough, not looking good after a case of beer rough... Anyway, hoping he really was into military vehicles, I asked him if he knew of any deuces or 5 tons for sale.

He said he had two "Desert Deuces" and they were better than a regular deuce because they had six speed transmissions. I am not super deuce savvy, but I never heard of a Desert Deuce being different than a woodland deuce, except for the color of the paint.

I know we have deuce experts here, is my Oklahoma friend full of bull as I suspect or was there really a six speed deuce made for running in the loose sand?

To be honest, I feel kind of dumb for even asking, but who knows??

All is not lost though, my search turned up this old thread! Check out that Napco converted Chevrolet, both of them! Glen

For a minute I thought you were going to say bad things about Desert Deuce Suplus. He's a good guy to deal with.

Perhaps he was refering to an M35A3 with a ZF6 transmission. I've seen an M36A3 with the ZF6 trans.

Hopefully , you told him about this website and he'll post up what he has, soon.

I see a poll arising:

1. guy is litterally full of bs
2. M1009 owner fell for it
3. make owner a SS member and post pics
4. he should have followed him home and take his own pics
