Air compressor

I replaced my first under hood air compressor today. The one I removed was a large duel piston compressor that said "air brakes" on the side of it. This one locked up, fryed the belt etc. The one I replaced it with was a single piston, larger cylinder unit. What's the deal with the differences? t seems to work great. I have to remove the new one I installed, I tried to silicone the mating surfaces and of course it leaks oil. I am going to make a gasket this time!!

Make sure your gasket has the oil hole. The pic Paul posted is great at showing the oli line which doesn't exist on the dual piston pump. Nonetheless, the compressor needs engine oil to survive. Perhaps that was the problem with the last compressor. I've been making mine from sheet gasket material.

Be sure that the oil 'hole' on the mount plae is free and clear! I had the same prob with the first comp on my deuce. The city mech's had rtv'd the ENTIRE gasket -COMPLETELY filled the hoiler hole. That was expensive! aua
