I know, kinda lame of me but boy did it cause my heart to race! I'm new to a MV's and new to my M925 but not new to driving. I was running an errand in the middle of the work day (brought my truck to work just because) and on the way back I heard and felt the engine kinda stumble and then stumble some more. My newbie brain tried to process all that it could be (truck's been relatively trouble free thus far), as I scanned my gauges. My heart raced when I saw the fuel gauge on E. "oh crap, I going to run this thing outta gas in the middle of traffic and look like a total ass to all who pass by" was my first thought. My heart really started to race as my mind ran through all the possible worse case scenarios, most involving substantial embarrassment or cost. Fortunately a gas station was only a few blocks up the road, but the stop and go traffic made it look and feel like it was an eternity away. I did arrive okay and put 20 gallons in her, all the while thanking my lucky stars and promising myself I will never-ever let that happen again. Lesson learned :)

That's not the worst thing you can do in a military vehicle, but it ranks right up there. I was riding shotgun in an M35A3 deuce when my friend, a fellow Army technician, ran it out of fuel on a trip we were making to FT McCoy. It ran out right at the end of the off ramp as we were starting to turn on to WI Hwy 21.Needless to say, it was quite a chore to get the beast recovered. When you lose your prime those things seem to take forever to get going again. Because we were on an official military mission, and the vehicle was part of the property of the unit my friend worked for, he had it flat towed to FT McCoy and worked on in the direct support maintenance shop. I don't remember how we got back to Milwaukee, but I'm sure my friend found a way. He was resourceful. He probably borrowed a staff car.
