Hello,

We have a M1031 for our SAR team and have done a great deal of work on it. The other day the lights started to dim and it just went dead. We assumed it was the alt but the rebuild shop says it seems fine. Anybody have a similar issue that they resolved.

After reading the online stuff I see to look for fuses, etc. but there is nothing more specific as in location, etc.

Also would like clarification as to which alt works with which battery and which does what. Have seen conflicting info.

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Standard CUCV the driver's side alternator is grounded to the block and charges the front battery. The passenger side alternator is isolated from the chassis ground (floats 12V above chassis ground) and charges the rear battery.

On a stock CUCV with the exception of the glowplugs and starter all other electrical devices are 12V and work off the front battery.

Loose or lost ground or a bad front battery?
