Having zero threads sticking out weakens the fastened joint. Without protruding material to provide a backstop for the last couple threads of engagement, forces put against those last threads just roll them over off the end of the bolt.

A minimum thread protrusion length is given to ensure that all the threads are engaged. This is required to ensure a full-strength fastener. Equipment component drawings should specify the type, length, and size of bolt, stud, bolt-stud, etc. to be used to obtain the proper thread protrusion.

I will have to think about that. Ensuring the fastener is engaged, backstopping, and the "feel good" of visual confirmation. There is some good physics in there somewhere.

Hey Brennan, do you happen to have any more of the Kits? All I need is one Left and one Right CTIS Lug but getting a kit for 4 tires is fine and having spares is always a good idea.

No, the O-ring on the back of the wheel and the O-ring under the CTI lug nut are all there is. My CTIS system works perfectly and I have had zero issues…knock on wood.

Do I not need little o-rings on the back side of the valves as well?

That I don’t know, haven’t had a valve off yet. I have extra valves and can look at them to see if they have recesses for o-rings on the back.

Sounds like you’re going to need those o-rings too then. I’ll look in the rebuild kits I have to see if they are included. Most likely are and valve rebuild kits are good to have, so you might want to pick up some. Typically cheap and easy to find.

Okay, so yes, the valve body for the aluminum wheels uses two o-rings between the back of the valve body and the rim, photo below. The aluminum rim valves use the same internals as the steel wheel valve and the rebuild kits I have for them do not include the o-rings for the back. These kits are technically for the steel wheel valve, so, I'm glad I looked into this so I can source the o-rings.

Picked up another unused rim and tire locally yesterday for $500. I already have a full set of 5, but couldn't pass this up. tire is a 2016 date code with sticker on it still and the seller said it was stored inside. Still won't run this tire on the front though since I don't really know its history.

Yes, the CTIS lug nut are stupid expensive and you have to be patient to get them. You used to be able to buy them directly from Hutcheson, but they no longer deal with the public directly. They will refer you to one of their distributors, which are all military suppliers and thus are incredibly slow and inefficient to deal with. It took months for me to get the 4 I needed and with shipping cost over $100 per nut, if I remember correctly. There was a vendor here on the forum that said he was going to stock them, so you might try him first. Good luck.
