ammeter/ gen light replacement

I am trying to decide what I want to do as far as adding some gauges in place or/ along with some of my idiot lights and have a question. As far as the gen lights go, I understand that the bulb is part of the circuit and from what I understand whatever you replace it with must have the same resistance. What I am wondering is can you buy a replacement ammeter from someplace like LMC and use it in place of the bulbs? I figure if this would work, it would require very little modification to the actual dash board.

I am a little unsure if the gauge I am looking at through LMC is a true ammeter, it has a small pic of a battery and a +nd - side, seems it shows if the battery is charging. Is this all an ammeter does as opposed to showing the actual draw?

No, not with the stock wiring.

An advanced search in the CUCV forum for 'gauge, idot, ammeter, amp, digital, analog, etc", will pull up a few threads where others have done some custom installs.

IMHO, the lights do all you need.
