I am going to buy an engine from white owl surplus and I am wanting to get input on what others think of their 6.2's I know they are pull outs with low mileage but is there anything I need to be concerned with. I.e. the contractor who was doing the engine swaps on these hummers removing blown or prematurely worn out engines and doing the upgrade then? It would make the most sense to only up grade trucks first that have been ragged out the most. Or am I being too cynical? I just don’t want to buy an engine to replace the blown one in my truck only to have this one be blown or blow soon after I get it.

I'd buy cheapy off someone here and rebuild it, there is enough parts in the classifieds to make it economical.. ie gasket, rings and such.
Things that going to do:
1 pull heads have them redecked and serviced ( ARP studs)
2 pull pistons and rods replace as needed and rering
3 pull crank have it inspected ( new balancer)
4 new oil pump.
that is about 700 bucks into 1.50 motor about 250buck at the machine shop
I assume your Ip is good?

To be honest a rebuild of a used engine in town for me would cost much more than $250. Its $200 per head to have them totally rebuilt. I know because I just had two done when I thought my blown motor was just a head gasket issue. Now I find out I might very well have cracked block instead and I spent all that money on having the heads redone.

Do you think that it would be a good idea to spend $600-800 to even have an engine rebuilt from somewhere like White Owl if it only has 15-30k miles on it? I'm guessing these were pullouts from your typical hummer that just sits in a motor pool. I'm already going to be in this thing about $1300 once it’s shipped.

I have seen several 6.2 engines in my area for about $300.00. All supposedly " ran when pulled." Sound like you already have a good set of heads, starter, alts, IP, etc. Check the classifieds often.

I'll have to look. My only other constraint is that this truck is my daily driver and only vehicle. So since I have been waiting for the last 3 weeks to get all the work done so far I'm trying to come up with a solution quickly. Thats why I was willing to spend more to have the engine I want. Not to mention I'll still have to wait and pay for having a different unknown condition pull out rebuilt.

If you are are in that way I though what ever you can lay your hands on. and start rebuilding a motor on the side. I always feel better with a backup engine in can.. can't figure out why I have 4 @ the moment and lookin for more???
