Anyone know what these "Loops" on the bumper are for?

Hey guys I've found this truck somewhat close to me and saw these loops. Just curious what they are for, owner said to hold a winch but that is not correct as those are mounted to the frame.

You will also see their remains (usually cut off level with the top of the bumper) on some Army trucks. In an unusual reversal of the Marines getting cast-offs from the Army, the Army received all of the usable Marine M35s when the Corps went to an all 5-ton medium truck fleet.

Cheers

...Or when a winch was added.

Its a shame those hacks didn't flip the hubs, that looks so wrong!

Well then they are running the rims "dish-out" and it looks bad!

When you put a winch on, the bumper gets installed up-side-down. Those hoops will now severely limit approach angle, so they get cut off.

So that would indicate the hubs aren't flip then, if the rims are dished out. Here is a side shot

(Bad, probably means the hubs aren't flip?)

(Dished in, indicating hubs have been flip and the most correct way to run singles?)

Nah, hubs can be flipped and you still run dish out. It just doesn't look right imho, but it does give a wider stance. Yes, hubs flipped, dish in is the way it was meant to be.

Flipping the hubs puts the tires inline with the fronts. I see no reason to go through all that work and not have them in-line. Its not logical IMHO.

With the wider stance and not having the center of the tire close/if not over the center between the two bearing is just asking for trouble IMO.

Hubs flipped or not, rims dish in or dish out is all a preference thing. Its a lot of heavy work to flip the hubs. One thing about not flipping the hubs and running dish out, no the tires don't track in the same groove. But that's a plus if your going into deep mud, the rears will get fresh ground. First pic is original rims running dish out, Hubs not flipped. 2nd pic is hubs flipped, A3 rims, dish in
