Anyone Want A DFW Area Meet Up?

We seem to have a number of members in the DFW area now.

Would any be interested in a meet up say in Dallas/Ft. Worth/Arlington for breakfast/lunch/dinner some time in the next few weeks?

Perhaps anyone wanting to join in the Medal of Honor Parade in Gainesville on April 9 might be interested in meeting and joining in?

Just a thought.

I'm interested in getting together with some of the other locals. I travel alot with my job so some weekends are not good but if I can, I'll be there.

Keep me updated as well. My "promised" get together with the guys in Denton is well overdue! (sorry....)

I would like to make the April 9th function if possible, but I might be doing an airshow that weekend on the way back from Florida. If I am not flying, I will bring M38A1, or M151A2, or M35A2 or the DUKW. (Unfortunately, I doubt if I will have the Sherman tank back operational by then....track issues).

As the weather improves, hopefully a get together before the Gainesville parade would be good opportnity to meet the "locals".

I will check with the geezers at Vietnam Veterans of America #920 to find out where they think we should meet and when. Probably in a couple of weeks at least.

I met another DFW area member today and it made me think again about getting together with other local MV folk. When this first came up, I thought about Bass Pro Shop. The one up north of DFW airport, on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Everybody loves Bass Pro don't they? Or Cabellas even better... but that's a longer drive for the folks closer to Dallas. Arlington, as originally proposed, is probably the most central but I don't know anywhere to go down there.
Any input...?

A number of folks here suggested we invite all the MVPA in the Metroplex for a meet up. I am getting the email addresses now.

Another suggestion made is we should, and do, invite everyone to join with Vietnam
Veterans of America #920 at the Medal of Honor Parade in Gainesville, Texas, on Saturday, April 9. Normally, V V A 920 forms into a convoy leaving Denton around 8:30am, with a Sheriff's Department escort, traveling about 45mph to Gainesville. The ride there drew a lot of attention, especially with the Huey escort flying about 100 feet over us for much of the way.

We had at least four Medal of Honor winners riding with their families in our vehicles at the last event.

Anyone interested can also attend the dinner the night before in Gainesville with many Medal of Honor Winners in attendance. My son got 14 autographs from Medal of Honor Winners in his book of Medal of Honor Winners last year. They are wonderful people to meet and their life stories an inspiration to hear.

Anyone interested in attending can contact
Dennis A. Boots <dennis@dentonboots.com> for complete information on the event, our participation and the schedule.

Well, I've cleared it with the "appropriate authorities" and, weather/murphy/drivers permitting, I plan to make it to Denton on April 9th with, at least, the M151A2, M35A2C and the DUKW for the MOH run to Gainesville.

Do you know if they have a "No Tracked Vehicle" ordinance in Gainsville?

Dennis, I will contact you separately by email for specifics (location, times, etc).

There is a half track usually in the parade. A VERY NICE half track at that. I believe it is from Sherman. So, I do not believe there is a ban on tracked vehicles.

I think we had eight medal receipants ride with us last year. There are supposed to be a total of 14 medal receipants this year (they are not "winners").

There is a great convoy on the way up to Gainesville, time to meet and greet abefore the parade, and we all get together to have lunch before heading back after the parade.

We are moving to the Dallas area. The movers packed and loaded our stuff up first of this week. We are leaving after the 4th of July weekend is over.

Then over to San Angelo to drop my MIL off with my parents. Then off to Dallas to look for a place to live.

Eventually, we will settle and then I can join in the fun.

I'm starting my own MV club. Calling it the MVCC - Military Vehicle Collectors Club.

My email and phone are still working so I can contact you folks once we get there.

Sure looking forward to it.

Sorry John, I'll hook up with you on the return trip to SA to pick my MIL up. Then we can get together and break bread with the rest of my family there in SA.

OK, it's after LABOR DAY now. We have purchased a home in Keller and are starting to get moved in.

We KNEW we had the right place when we were looking at the house, we noticed the guy next door (Don) collects and had an M43 ambulance and an M37 pickup, and he said he also had a GPW (or two)...

I would definitely like to get together with some folks here in North Texas...

I'm working on a club idea right now. More 'western centric' than some other clubs... also less politics of running things. Seriously looking at making it a 501C3 corp, but have to look into it yet.

So I thought I would revive this thread and see if there is still interest now that summer and all the heat is hopefully past us...
