Are 3kW MEP-016 Gen Heads Interchangeable?

Will a gen head from a 016A fit on a 016B? They look different externally. Are internals the same?

I am fairly sure they have the same part number if that helps

Different NSN #s. 016B has an end cover that bolts to the head. 016A has the end cover made into the control box.
My 016D was loaned out and came back dead. I'm hoping to take the head from my 016E and put it on the 7HP Yanmar in the 016D frame.
Later, I'm hoping to couple the 10HP Yanmar from the 016E to the 5kW head from a 017A.

They appear to be similar. The 016B head has three tapped holes in the end to accept the round cover bolts. The rotors appear to be the same and the head bolts up to the same bell housing.
