Automatic Shifting

Something has changed. Since I've owned this truck from GovPlanet, it shifts hard into gear. It would hold the gear until about 16 - 20 MPH and third at over 35 MPH. When it would shift to second in a corner, it would chirp the tires. It would ease up when the truck warmed up but it was never smooth.

For that last few days it has been shifting really smoothly. Much like a modern automatic. You can hear the engine drop RPMs but it shifts at lower speeds now.

My question - which is normal? I have done nothing other than drive it on the highway the other day. It shifts smoothly even when it's cold.

I have very limited experience with automatics other than rental cars.

Sounds like your line pressure valve might have been a little stuck and has now decided to move. It's in the front pump so it can get dirty in there if the filter gets messy. From what you described it is shifting at normal speeds so the TV should be set up ok. Mine shifted crazy hard and extremely high with no throttle when the TV wasn't setup right and experienced that second gear chirp. It's fun but not all the time! Maybe change the fluid and filter just to make sure the filter is ok. Where I am I get the dexron 3 at tractor supply...don't need the expensive stuff the newer trans uses.
