I for one think gunnut should be compensated for the hats. Each truck buys their own to at least recoup money he has spent to put this whole thing together a long with the food.
Please don't worry about the cost of the hats! I have it covered in more ways than you may know.

My treat.

In fact I am working on the list of all those "other folks" that I want to get a hat - The Mayor, The Police Chief, The newspaper, The radio stations, The Chamber of Commerce Director, The local cable TV, etc.

The food will probably not be as great as you would like. Let's just call it "inexpensive" and leave it at that.

This thing is going to be good - and I am just giddy about it. We are up to 23 vehicles - maybe 24, if I can coordinate the movement of a 37mm gun off of the back of a Semi with a forklift. That should not be that hard to do. I got the photos yesterday and just need to print them out and take them to a couple of places and see what they can do.

Are we still gonna have enough room at the armory?

Also, let me know when you want to meet up for this Colt firearms electrical box. The long I have it the longer I want to keep it.

I think there will be enough room. If not, we will have to do it like they do at the airport and have some guys just circle around the block until there is a place to land.
:)

I do know that one of the guys plans on stacking his vehicles. (Well, actually the plan is to leave the airborne bulldozer in the back of the Deuce and a half.)

Although there are quite a few vehicles coming, they seem to be about one-half "big" and one-half "not big". The WLA won't take up much space and I can always park my Mule on the front porch of the Armory.

I have a military funeral Tuesday and a wedding this weekend - otherwise I will be in my shop the rest of the time (except to install a kitchen countertop Thursday). Catch me, if you can.

Yep.

It looks like the highway will be under construction for part of the cruise route. I am in the process of determining an alternate route. This highway is a major street right through the middle of town. While it is closed for construction, it will be a major pain to get from "here to there" for everybody - including "BBPs" (BING BANG Participants).

I did order a second case of caps and keep reminding myself to pick them up, but I only remember after normal business hours. I am going to a Flight Breakfast somewhere in Nebraska with a friend of mine in the morning. (Still kind of an odd thing to fly a couple of hundred miles just to eat breakfast.) I helped him build the plane. Well, OK, I was the only guy that he knew that was small enough to fit inside the tail and hold the anvil, while he drove the rivets from the outside. Perhaps I can get back in time to check on those hats?

I spent a little time on one of the radio stations yesterday and they have been playing the interview every couple of hours. http://ks957.com/news/latest-news-stories-new/#de72a36f708d0683a2c398d03326f695 As a result of the interview, I have already received one inquiry from a local business man that wants to know about "sponsoring" the event. I probably should go talk to him. :D

I have been digging out more door prizes and have quite a pile by now. I also went to the Chamber of Commerce and got some "Welcome Bags" to hand out to the participants. They are full of "stuff" donated by the local business in town. Who know what might be inside of them?

A little visit to the lumber yard secured the use of their fork lift to unload a 37mm anti-tank gun from one of the transport vehicles, but I might have to get the hardware store to use their's to load it back up. Those lumber yard folks quit early on Saturday.

More coordination with the Police Chief due to the required cruise route change and he is planning on more patrol car placement to help with the traffic. I also spoke with him about shooting the cannons - the 37 mm and my Civil War one - no problems.

I am having a blast with this thing. See you, when you get here.

Yea!

More folks at the RALLY.

Just as soon as it stops raining, I am going to take my tape measure to the Armory and measure the parking lot.

I have drawn the lot on my CAD program and calculated the sizes of the expected vehicles. That will make it easier to park them. Luckily my CAD program will measure to the .0001 of an inch. It might be tight.

Anybody know the required size of the safety fan to fire a 37mm anti-tank cannon - or is OK to just aim it toward where the armored vehicles will be parked?

I love this project! It is going to be a - dare I say it? - blast!

I went to the Armory this morning and noticed that one of the downspouts on the roof was plugged and rain was pouring out over the scupper. No problem - just a simple climb up the stairs and a ladder to get to the roof top - three stories up. While I was up there, I thought that would be a GREAT place to take some photos of the RALLY. I will be sure and post them, when we are done. If I fall off while taking them, I will try and bring the camera with me during the fall so someone might still post the photos.

One month and one day from the BA-DA BA-DA BING BANG RALLY.

I can hardly wait!

Three weeks out!

This Cruise is driving me nuts! I spoke with the DOT and the street will NOT be under construction during the Rally. However, it took a whole week for a rather large retail center located on the East side of town to determine - that they could not determine - if we could use their parking lot. I don't have that kind of time - especially since I am now told by the Police Chief that I need to have the "Parade Route" approved by the City Council. (That is not a big deal - I did it more than a few times, when I was on the City Council.) The tough part is the next Council meeting is coming soon and I have to get the route planned with appropriate maps and directions and submit the application to the Council.

Therefore, I spoke with the Park Director and we are moving the "Ice Cream Social" to our largest city park - a new map and a new route plan (complete with distances and travel times). Luckily the Police Department is willing to do just about anything I need to make this happen.

The schedule is done and looks "like it might work". I have printed it about a dozen time. Maybe I should use a pencil and paper - or a chalk board - or just write it in the shifting sands on the beach?

The wife and I picked up some groceries today. (Don't worry. I am sure they will last until the Rally. She needed some for her school project also.)

Anyway, if you are planning on participating in the BA-DA BA-DA BING BANG RALLY, check your emails. I am NOT putting all of the information in this thread. There is much more information in your inbox.

Another email coming soon.

Go check your oil and tire pressure. We are about ready to move!!!!!!

Ive been putting more miles on the cucv lately so things break now instead of on the trip. Its working too.

Bummer!

Honestly, I have been doing the same thing. I hooked my Mule to the MB and drove the Cruise Route with the wife following in the van. I did not know how that was going to work and I certainly did not want to find out during the Cruise. Unlike you - I did not have anything break. Sorry about your luck.

I picked up some more parts from a local restoration source. I am indicating on my "Registration Form" that the MB is "currently under going restoration" and that is the truth!

I installed the correct outer windshield frame today. It had a CJ frame on it. It looks much better now - except the horrible lime green color. Painting is on the agenda for tomorrow. If I have some extra time, I might see if I can figure out what the story is behind the missing emergency brake. I have some parts but not enough to replace all of those (read everything) that are missing.

See you in a couple of weeks!

We got our official "Parade Permit" at last night's City Council meeting. I needed to get a permit for a "Parade", but I told them it was not a "Parade" but a "Cruise". The police chief wanted me to get a permit since the Department is providing escort and intersection control. Not a problem and we are legal - still no propane .50s during the Cruise. We will do that at the Armory and at the Ice Cream Social - cuz everybody should have a .50 caliber at their Ice Cream Social.

I am still getting emails from folks planning on bringing vehicles. There should be 28 vehicles coming - and it looks like I am up to 43 hats. I sure hope I don't need to order another box. It is getting kind of late for that sort of thing. I suppose, it they don't let me know soon, they will have to bring their own hat.

I don't know, if anyone out there has an old military ark. There is not one registered so far. We have been getting rain constantly for what seems like the last week. I wonder, if the transport vehicle parking lot is getting a little soft? That might be a problem, since I am "borrowing" the use of the property. We might have to unload on a side street and park transport vehicles somewhere else.

It seems you are never too old to learn something new. I have been learning about "dry ice". I need some way to keep the ice cream frozen during the Cruise and before the Ice Cream Social, but I don't think a normal cooler will work. Who wants wet ice cream?

This is going to be a "thing" for the City of Atlantic. I will post photos, when we are done - if I can remember to take them.

You sound squared away for the event for sure, I mean except for the ice cream problem. Maybe you can store it all on the "coolest" vehicle in the cruise line-up; do you think that would help!?

I wish I knew about propane .50's but I don't:

- Is that some kind of replica weapon that uses propane to simulate sound or something?

Yep, roger on the propane .50. They are plumbed with propane gas and an igniter. Very realistic sounding without the expense of blanks, blank adapters, etc.

I really really hope that my biggest concern for this event is the "ice cream problem". :)

There is NO WAY I am going to try and determine the "coolest" vehicle. Perhaps next year we can have the "People's Choice Coolest Vehicle / Ice Cream Hauler" category? I will put that in my "things to consider for next year pile".

This is going to be fun. I can hardly wait - until I see my list of things to do before it happens. Then I wish I had a few more weeks.
