I have seen issue like this in many civi cars and trucks, with ground straps missing, broken or corroded. So I'm sure it would have the same effect in MV's.
It's nice when the fix is a nice simple resolution, but trying to find that resolution can drive you crazy. I always try to remember to add even extra ground straps if the space provides it, especially from the engine to chassis.
Think of grounds as a return path to the battery, it must be equal to or greater than the positive cable diameter.
