I got my truck and it has 1400R20 Goodyear tires.
I bought some Michelin 395/85R20 on rims out go Herlong Ca. Have not picked them up yet.
Is there any big difference in the two type of tire sizes. Not the brands.

About 3 inches in height and a couple thousand pounds of carrying capacity.

14's.

You said you got 395's. Are they on FMTV rims? I assume you're putting them on a 5 ton (given this being in the 5 ton forum). If they're MRAP wheels, they won't bolt up.

I don't have a handle on the rims yet. new be at this.
the tires on the truck have less than 1500 miles,
they are 2008 year but look rot free.
i will use the bed for a cooler, sleeping bag, gun cases, and ammo.
Maybe stake some beer drinks friends for a rid in the desert.

I would stick with the 14.00s the good years don't last as long as the Michelin xzls but they are better then the 395s. With the 395s you will loose a bit of top speed and will mess with your speedo

Biggest diff is the 395's are rated to 70mph at least on the Mich I have- check your sidewall to make sure!

The 14's and & 16's are 55mph tires!

That is a huge plus IMHO !

Mraps will usually also have a run flat instead of a beadlock if you choose to use them.

I have heard that The Mich are only good to 55mph. I will not need to go fast. I have new 395/85R20 when I can get going to pick them up.
I think they have the Mrap wheels which will not work on a M923A2 truck.

You can swap all the good stuff over to the 5ton rims. The width and tread of the 395s is way better (if its the XZL tread) than the 1400s. You should wait till you get them next to each other to decide. A beadlocked, run flat tire is WAY better than one that isn't(imho).

Well sure, but the bead-width might be different on the 395 & 14.00 tires. Know that's an issue when using run-flats or PVC inserts in hmvwvwwwee wheels with some tires. Might not be a bad idea to throw them in the front wheels/tires at least, as a blow-out up front at freeway speeds could be real bad...

Not sure what you mean about the bolt pattern on the dish?

The mraps I have were equipped with a run flat and no beadlock. The run flat takes the place of the beadlock. I don't see how there would be enough room for both?

Actually I think you are wrong according to the spec's I saw researching the 395's. The Michelin's are only rated 55 MPH. The Goodyears are rated 65 MPH.
