bleeding master cyl

While waiting for my flywheel to be resurfaced, I am moving on to my leaky master cyl. After reading every post I can find on bleeding the master cyl ( leaving the cap off and pumping the pedal) I noticed a plug on the bottom rear of my new master cyl ( right under the line) My question is, could I put a bleeder screw there to bleed off the air in the chamber? I thought of that because thats where the air would most likely want to go. I have a remote res in the cab so leaving the MC cap off to bleed the air then installing the remote line could introduce air when refilling that line.

With 13,000 lbs rolling down the road I want the best brakes I can get.


Any thoughts?

Don't pump your brakes with the cap off the MC, you'll have oil everywhere. Make yourself a pressure bleeder out of a garden pump sprayer and your bleeding job will go much easier.

I have a pressure bleeder I made, in other posts I read to only pump the brakes a little, just to let the air escape thru bubbles rising to the cap.

I think it would be better to bleed thru a bleeder at the rear of the MC chamber.

I will look at an old master to see if the plug at the bottom most rear leads to the chamber and if it does I will give it a try.

Use a pressure bleeder, bleed airpack first, then work your way from the back to the front, I have done this on many trucks and works great, also use less dot 5.

If your going to use a pressure bleeder, don't touch the pedal. Depressing the pedal with the pressure bleeder on can and usually will force brake fluid into the AirPack.

There are plenty of posts here to explain the correct way to best bleed your system. Take the time to look through them.

It may save you some greif down the road.
