Blown fuses and flasher

I just got around to removing my pintle hook and plug for a trailer. Once I removed the plug there were two leads (male and female) left on the harness. Should I plug these in together? Now that I removed the plug I am blowing light and signal fuses and, i believe, my flasher. Any suggestions?

Are you sure that one of the two leads aren't making contact with the frame and shorting things out? There shouldn't be a problem with unplugging things and leaving them unplugged.
