Brake fluid resev. vent tube help

My vent tube on the cap to my brake fluid resevoir has been cut and crimped. I'm assuming this is bad? I don't know why it was cut and crimped.

1) Should I leave it alone?

2) If not, can I cut the crimped end off and secure a hose from the fitting on the cap and run the hose down below the frame somewhere? My guess is that the cap vents at certain pressure?

Thank you for any help with this...

It should be open to atmosphere. Now would be the time to add a remote reservoir. A search should bring up a few topics on how to do it

I've seen a lot of mention of the remote res. in passing when I was searching posts and TM's for the location of the res. and how much to fill it. It's pretty low.

Thank you for the help, gents. I greatly appreciate it...:-D
