Brake spring puller, broken pliers, need advice

Can anyone suggest what tool to use to pull these 14” shoes springs. I had a cheap part store pliers that has the offset hook. Worked great till I twisted it to pull a stubborn one.
Any help suggestions appreciated, any photos of home made ones would be appreciated as well.

I recently replaced the brakes on my truck using off the shelf brake tools including brake spring pliers. Doubtless, tools vary in quality.
