The brushes can be replaced after removing the rear regulator cover from the ALTERNATOR. The easiest way is to remove the alternator from the truck and then pulling the regulator on the bench. That way your niot trying to work at wierd angles. Then it's just a couple of screws that hold the brush block into the rear housing. Most good shops that repair alternators and starter motors can provide the brushes. They shouldn't cost more than about $10.
