Can anybody identify this?

Had a chance to purchase this to keep it from going to the scrap yard for $50.00 dollars but don't know if it is worth saving. Anybody know what it is for? Should I save it from the scrap yard? It looked complete inside and out. Sorry didn't get any pictures with the lid open.

I'd say save it (although $50 seems a bit steep in a junkyard).

I personally don't need it, but I'm sure someone, somewhere, is hunting for one of those!
I've also not picked stuff up in the past, but later found I wanted/needed it, or met someone to whom it was the holy grail.

Attached are pictures of what it looks like inside, and also a lead from a technical manual that gives a lead on it's use.

That would seem a lot to fork out for 'decorative' box. (and) perhaps the inside pieces are hopefully present. Good for decorating a signals truck I would think.

A quick search on eBay past sales shows a complete nice looking unit sold for 39.95. If you had to add much for shipping you would be around the 50.00 price tag. Neat display piece but probably "all the money " as they say.
