I picked up a beautiful M1009 yesterday...
Won't start, but I had an adventure trying.
The batteries were not securely held or connected and a battery cable dropped to the frame... and a short apparently started a small fire on the firewall.
It appears that the capacitor assembly (fig 36, item 5, part 15599225 of the CUCV -20 manual) is the only thing that connectes the two terminal boards... and it burned. I'll verify that's what it was tomorrow.
1. What does that capacitor do?
2. What bad things happen if it's gone?
3. Is the part number a GM number I can buy at any shop? If not, who's got one?
The truck was advertised as "Does not Start." It didn't, but it turned over well and without clunks that suggest a thrown rod or something big and clunky. I'm hoping that basic troubleshooting per the -20 manual will allow it to start.
It's a beautiful truck... under 4k miles and mint except for the little fire and not starting. At the price of the truck though, I can afford to put an engine it it.
Thanks for your kind assistance. My first CUCV.
