against all better judgement and the advice of many friends and family members, I went ahead with the help of my dad [
] After reading "Servicing Split Rims" in issue 97 of Military Vehicles Magazine, I decided it was easily attemptable with the proper equipment, attention to detail, and caution. Took about 3 hours to do one tire, but it's the first one I've done so the next ones will go smoother. I have three more to do- one more flat, one with a bent valve stem that I will probably need to replace the whole tube on, and possibly another with a broken valve core I can't seem to get out.
Will take pictures on the next one.
Is it dangerous? yes. can it be done safely? yes the key word is caution, inspect EVERYTHING, take your time, make sure you don't lose focus and always follow safety procedures. And have a helper, I would not attempt it alone.
