Cleaning up my 1008

So my M1008 took a pretty serious beating last winter. Crap on the roads around here wreck everything. Oddly enough the body seems to have fended off the stuff. I really think the CARC Paint under the white paint saved the truck from salt. The body is very clean for a 25 yr old truck. The frame however took a beating and could not wait any longer or irreversible damage would result. I took the bed off and descaled the frame and then used over 300 lbs of Media sandblasting it. Fortunately i caught it in time and the damage is cosmetic. I put three coats of POR 15 on it. The u bolts were only 2 yrs old and I had to cut them off with a torch. The bottom plates had holes in them. All the brake lines were garbage.. I painted the cab and nose so far with Milspray 383 green. it's a bit more yellowy than the original green but it looks good. Of course my son wanted my old Tonka truck blasted and painted as well. Figures I got runs in the CUCV but the Tonka CUCV came out mint. The paint definitely requires practice.

Well now I know why the color is off. I goofed. I ordered Olive Drab not 383 Green. Oh well. It looks fine and I am not repainting it now. The bad news is I am running short on Paint and Mil Spray is no longer offering it for sale in anything but bug bombs cause they had too many complaints about people not using it right which really sucks. I don't see anything wrong with it. My only observations are you have to use a top loader gun. You have spray it lighter than you think cause it will lay on fine heavy but then run as it doesn't tack fast and MOST importantly YOU MUST have good water separators and drain your compressor. ANY water and you will have problems. The paint also needs to be stirred alot. I think the issues were alot of ametuers were not experimenting with it thinking just dump it in and go which is not the case. Sucks that they are not selling it. I am waiting for approval from them to buy another gallon as I need it to finish the truck. I may have to skip the tailgate and grille for now as I am running out. I knew I should have gotten 2 gallons but they told me on average 1 gal is enough but I had to redo a few panels and some test runs to get the hang of the paint.
