BTW From the web, no idea if true or not but sounds reasonable.

"API SJ rating was introduced in 1996, in reponse to an EPA (US)
request to reduce phosphorus levels in engine oils, due to its life
shortening effect on the catalyst in catalytic converters.
Phosphorous is used as an anti-wear additive (among others).

Under SJ rating the maximum allowable phosphorus level was reduced from 0.12% to 0.10%. However, the reduction only applies to the viscosity ratings 0W-20 through to 10W-30... which means that if you're using a heavier oil the SJ specification really means jack sh.t, since there may or may not be any reduction in the phosphorus level, depending on the whim of the oil company.

What's suitable for any particular engine has SFA to do with that
particular API rating... which may not be the case for ratings other
than SH or SJ. Subsequent ratings may be or may not be significant
for a variety of reasons, mostly dependant upon what engine you intend using it in. AFAIK the most recent rating is SL. All AFI ratings are backward compatible, but not necessarily vice versa."
