This is a good thing. The more widely the pain is felt, the greater and more urgent the pushback will be.
The irony is that some little DMV person made it their point to interpret the law according to their own political leaning.... just to exercise their power. Meanwhile the politicians clearly never intended the law to be interpreted this way but they haven't done anything except pass the blame elsewhere.

I've contacted SAN/SEMA again and made them aware of this Denver Gazette article - now might be the time to strike while the iron is hot and politicians are a bit embarrassed.

I don't think 800 trucks not being registered in CO is going to bump the needle with legislators or anyone besides us; the "iron" is not very hot. There is no bashfulness or embarrassment from the state about it. The local DMV just told me last week they won't renew my plates on my 1986 M35A2 because of the state regs. They issued plates and a title last year for it! The noteworthy item as to why they "flagged" me is that they require emissions in Fort Collins, but none of the emission places will test it as their system requires a 17 digit VIN to even start the test. (I asked about putting a bunch of zeros on the front, it won't work).

As a business owner in Wyoming I will ultimately have to switch it over to WY plates. The truck still will be driving as it was on Colorado roads and highways and they can KMA. This issue is a perfect example of CO government sending money to other states instead of taking the check for the plates. Literally nothing will change except the plates on the truck.

As an aside, the plates are $350 annually. The fine for expired plates is $110 and zero points. I am going to keep driving it and hopefully the city doesn't notice expired plates (they have an ordinance against expired plates). It is cheaper to drive it with expired plates and thus the state of CO gets zero money from me.

Does anyone know what happened with the petition? I would like to sign the petition at this link: https://www.change.org/p/senator-la...road-titles-for-military-vehicles-in-colorado

Yet the website claims the petition resulted in "Victory". I disagree if the state won't let me get an emissions test of plates, the battle still needs to be fought. Any updates on that petition or the legislative process would be helpful.

With the help of folks that signed this petition, and the efforts of the Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado SB 19-054 was enacted containing language that was intended to keep Military Vehicles from the off-highway only designation. Unfortunately, the Colorado Department of Revue (DOR) is providing guidance to their offices counter to that legislation, and sending out Notice of Denial letters to current Military Vehicle owners. The success of getting legislation was short lived. I'm grateful to all those who supported this cause and hope that a positive resolution will come from this eventually. While this is not a victory, the format of the battle has changed, and this petition has had it's impact. Thank you"

The only "insult" is the kick in the nuts from the state of CO. No insults were meant to anyone on this thread. This post has been going for years, the preverbial "iron" being hot quote was from 2021, but it is 2023 and nobody from the state of CO seems to care about the registration fees from the 800 trucks they kicked off the roads.

Yup!! What ^ he said. The state of Colorado has been acting like a mini version of the federal gov't. by making things up as they go when they find something they don't like. They don't get the law changed; they just change their mind on how this issue has been dealt with since vehicles began needing titles and license plates in the state. This particular issue is sadly a smaller version of much bigger issues when "they" do make law changes routinely without publicity or fanfare. but trying to outrun and set new standards for "you are kidding me laws."

"They" have decriminalized almost every drug category to now misdemeanors instead of felonies, misdemeanor for car theft; write the bad guy a ticket and release him with no trip to jail, no previous offender charges on gun charges, a bad guy breaks into your home; now a misdemeanor; issue him a ticket and release him. Here's one they are trying to pass now; a dog can't be in your vehicle and have any body part hanging outside of the vehicle in motion for safety reasons; anyone have a dog? Yes, that is important, but wait......there is no law saying a person can't have a body part outside of a vehicle in motion, guess that's not as important. On and on and on.......maybe this sounds a little insulting also, but sometimes facts do insult our sensibilities.

Does the current elected government in Colorado give a tinkers damn about our concerns in keeping our vehicles on the road? NO
The iron is not hot, it's not even warm. Colorado has turned into a socialist's progressive dream over the last few years.

You have to remember that our goberment has unlimited money (because we allow it). They don't care about the 800 trucks and the revenue that it added to the coffers. AND if they felt the pinch of losing that money, they simply create some new tax to replace that money...

Sad. But until people stand up and say hell no we won't go it won't stop.

I was assured that this nonesense of a law would be revoked last session of the Colorado legislative session.

I would think that if this had happened, and the law was changed that there would be rejoicing in the streets.

My data on this. I'm in Grand Junction CO and I was able to register the A1 lmtv as a class5 vehicle. This happened in November '21. That's the good part.

Bad part: the director witch-in-charge at the DMV, who was also running for county clerk in the aftermath of the 2020 voting scandal here, heard the words "military vehicle" and ran over to me and started treating me like shit, yelling at me, telling me these are "outlawed by Gov Polis", etc, etc. she stated I needed a "certified letter" from the EPA to operate this on public roads. Her words. I knew this was an activist-in-charge situation (inverse of active shooter situation) so I put my better half in command, while I walked outside with a police officer to "verify the VIN". Yes, an actual cop was doing this at the directors request. Back inside, my wife worked her bureaucratic magic and got this DMV director to back down far enough to at least let the state computer decide if the title would print/issue. She was just floating all the other nonsense. (Truck had no prior title, just bill of sale). She claimed state "law would prevent it from printing". Polis said, Polis said! Then she stormed off. She was quite confident.

Everyone else who works there must hate this woman bc she left the room and 3 other admins came over to help. They hit "enter" and the computer printed the title instantly, got my tags on the spot too. The tags say "CDC-###", this was just as Covid was ramping down lol. I'm a CDC government vehicle!!! You don't need a vax, this vehicle is proof!🤠

They hit me for GVW and said I'm required to keep "a mileage log". $2,675 all in.

since then, the last 2 renewals were by mail and uneventful. They send some dumb 1page mileage affidavit form and I send it back with a check. I put the wrong mileage every time. They don't care. it's been costing ~$300 per year. All for a vehicle that hauls kids around at parades.

Moral is, when the liberal Marxists start demanding things, just refuse to comply and they'll crumble. The system is meant to be worked, so let's work it.
