Completely dead

After doing a gearbox oil and gasket change.
When we finished of the job, we went for a short drive to let it go through all the gears.
All well til now.
Let it sit for a week, tried to get it started, turned the key and everything went blank.
As soon as I turn the key, light on instrument goes out, radio stops working, interior light dies, headlights don´t work anymore, nothing.
Left the ground cable of for a half hour, put it back on and all electric is back.
Try to honk the horn, everything dead again.
Took out battery and charged it overnight, put it back in, all lights and radio, horn work again.
Turn key, everything dead again.....

Is this the ignition switch or something else?

It hasn´t worked since...

Any tips would be highly appreciated.

Oh yeah, it´s an m880, no 24 volts anymore or anything related, new starter, new alternator, new voltage regulator, new ballast resistor.

Check the grounds and the terminals.

If you have any cheap aftermarket "cut and clamp" cable ends, they would be the first suspects.

It's not serious in all likelihood. You get a bad contact at a main cable connection, but one that can run the radio and lights... then the high current burns it out and you have nothing.

And that was it, found the problem.
The main battery cable had started to come loose inside the insulation closest to the battery connection.
Tried starting the engine with a jumper cable from the battery plus to the relay and voila, started right up.
Had it running for a while, shut it off, and that was good because the jumper cable got pretty warm.

Thanks for the the tip.
