I can find absolutely nothing on the serial number for the first vehicle.

Vehicle 2 is in the system but with very limited data. here's what I got:

Nomenclature:TRUCK CARGO 1-1/4T Model:M1008A1 NSN:2320011232671
Serial Number:J1FF359323 Registration Number:NG1F6Z Year of Mfg:1984
Manufacturer:93219 Contract Number:DAAE07-82-C-4060

At least now you have the registration number.

How 'bout mine?

VIN: 1GCGD34J3FF436211

I couldn't find the reg number...Where is this usually located? What is it useful for? The numbers painted on the truck are as follows:

Bumper: 20GPSF
Fender: TP45

Thanks for any help you can give!

tsmall07,

They were efficient with yours and processed it out of the loosing unit. It was listed as the Alabama Army National Guard, US Property and Fiscal Office. They are the ones that run the property records for each state's national guard units. According to the bumper, the unit would have been the 20 Special Forces Group (Green Berets). Fender TP45 means tire pressure 45 psi.

I did find your registration number: NG1PNG It should also be on the data plate in the door jam. It is also normally painted on the lower part of the inside of each door.

Hope I'm not too late to the party!

VIN: 1G8ED18J7EF128814
Reg: NF02XX
No bumper numbers, the only history I have on it is that it came out of Texas.

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I have a tip that might work for you. Meldog told me about mine, then a few days later I got an idea and used carbeurator cleaner to remove the paint over my bumper numbers.

Its slow enough that it didn't take it off too fast but it took maybe 30 mintes. the layer kind of bubbles up and you just wipe it off.

I don't know if it works for all paints but it worked on mine. So you guys with nice paint may want to be careful if you try this. If you wipe it off and rinse with water, that seemed to stop the paint eating.

I don't know if it's the best but I had some cans and I learned that it melts paint from a previous experiment gone wrong.

Vehicle was transferred to A Company, 57 Signal Battalion at Fort Hood, TX fairly recently and was probably sent to DRMO from there. This unit failed to properly receive the vehicle into the unit.

Before that unit, I found the following:
US Army Operational Test Command, Location: FT HOOD, TEXAS

Nomenclature:TRUCK UTILITY 3/4TON Model:M1009 NSN:2320011232665
Serial Number:J7EF128814 Registration Number:NF02XX Year of Mfg:1984
Manufacturer:93219 Contract Number:DAAE07-82-C-4060

Hope that helps.

First vehicle was processed out and not much info:
Organization: Was used by the Transportation Motorpool Vermont Army National Guard
Location: COLCHESTER, VERMONT

Nomenclature:TRK CARGO (1/2T-4X4) Model:6000GVW NSN:2320010907891
Serial Number:1GBHD34J7GF409491 Registration Number:NG1KPJ Year of Mfg:1986

That's it on #1.

#2 isn't a whole lot better.
Organization: TOOELE ARMY DEPOT Location: BLUE GRASS, KENTUCKY

Nomenclature:TRUCK UTILITY 1-1/4T Model:M1031 NSN:2320011335368
Serial Number:J7GF412889 Registration Number:NG1KX8 Year of Mfg:1986
Manufacturer:93219 Contract Number:DAAE07-82-C-4060

Not sure how the vehicle was assigned to Toole Army Depot and yet located in Blue Grass Army Depot KY. Might be Toole handles their property. Doesn't sound right but maybe. The file for this vehicle hasn't been updated since 1992 so there is a big gap there.

That's all I got.

Well, that would explain why the first one is rusty, being from Vermont. The second one has an additional plate saying it was modified to M1028a1, 07/92, TEAD(Toole Army Depot?) thanks for the info!

That info kinda explains the second vehicle but they never process all of the right paperwork and that is why Toole still showed up.

Will need you to check the data plate on your door jam. Validate the serial number and the registration number should also be on the plate. The number you provided is not in the system. Any chance the vehicle was air force?

Is there any resource for those of us with former Air Force vehicles to get a history? I would imagine you can run a Carfax on them, but can't imagine it tells you much - anyone tried it before?

If this is O/T from the thread it can be moved to a new topic, but I figured I'd add it here since I see someone else asked about an ex-USAF truck as well.

medlog, can I join the wagon?

Alfa painted over mine and put BS markings on it so I have no clue what any of the stuff is other than the VIN:

1GCGD34J1GF334858

Oh yeah, the Carfax on mine stated the basic information about the truck and I think referenced somewhere that it had been a government fleet vehicle. The only chronological notes were when Alfa reg'd it in WI and then I bought it and reg'd it in MI.

No prob.

Here ya go:

Organization: CAMP RIPLEY TRAINING SITE Location: CP RIPLEY, MINNESOTA
Nomenclature:TRUCK CARGO 1-1/4T Model:M1008A1 NSN:2320011232671
Serial Number:J1GF334858 Registration Number:NG1USN Year of Mfg:1986
Manufacturer:93219 Contract Number:DAAE07-82-C-4060 Usage Miles: 44307

This record has not been updated since 1987 so that is very suspect on where the vehicle has been used over the years.

Thanks man!

The whole truck is suspect but that's due to Alfa and not it's own fault.

Well, they did say they got it from the Minnesota NG. I did notice it has the remains of a "aircraft control tower light signals" translator label on the drivers' side sun visor.
