Have a question about the starter on my m1008. Ive had it rebuilt and it works great upon initial startup but when you shut it off when warm it hesitates to start. The starter turns over but very slowly both batteries show 12+ volts any ideas. Im thinking that it might be getting to hot from the exhaust. Im thinking that if i wrap the exhaust and the starter with header wrap it might solve my troubles. Any suggestions or ideas truck only has 45000 miles.

That was the stock type Delco starter wasn't it. When they are rebuilt the use a kit which includes a Shunt and when it is hot it causes the starter to spin slowly. Best way to fix it is to take it out and take it back to the re builder and have them remove the shunt. Wrapig the exhaust will just allow it to run longer before the heat transfers to the starter but it will still heat up as the block heats up while running. If it is the 28MT then I would say there is a winding problem or the front bushing is worn and causing the armature to drag, either way it will leave you on the side of the trail soon.
