In the Soviet Union in the late 80s started to build their own particle accelerator - a ring-long 21 kilometers at a depth of 40-60 meters. Throughout the tunnel every mile were built underground halls to accommodate large equipment, which were connected to the surface by vertical shafts.

Excavation was completed in December 1994. In the same year was commissioned in the first section of the new accelerator - an underground channel length of 2.7 km, connecting the U-70 and ESC.

In the channel was mounted electromagnetic system, vacuum system, monitoring devices for the beam. After setting all elements of the channel, protons with energies of 70 GeV passed on the project trajectory until a future point of entry to an underground ring of UGC.
But in the early '90s the Soviet Union collapsed, more precisely, it collapsed, and funding for the collider was stopped. So he stayed underground in a dormant state. This facility is located in Protvino.

European Large Hadron Collider had - just an idea .... It will build only after 15-20 years ...

The fate of the largest Soviet accelerator project - a proton-antiproton collider ESC, whose construction in the suburban Protvino was frozen in the 90s is likely to be resolved in 2013, the year.

This was stated by Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Research Centre \ "Kurchatov Institute \" Mikhail Popov.

One of the most significant projects of the Soviet automobile industry was project of "Otkritie." (discovery). Its main customer were military, which led to the secrecy of the work, and the performer became the Kremenchug Automobile Plant.

First made in project - KrAZ-E6316. Layout cab over the engine, the engine compartment - JAMZ-8425, whose power to 360 hp. War men seemed to be insufficient.For the military proved to be underpowered power engine.

On photo: But after the Soviet collapse of the project was forgotten and only two years ago, HC "AvtoKrAZ" restored the available sample, and supplemented them with his museum. During the annual auto show "KrAZ-2010" in Kremenchug "Siberia" first showed its potential on the factory test site to journalists from several countries.

A-60 "laser sword of the USSR," or "30 years before the laser Boeing .."

In the past year (or the year before?), With great fanfare announced it had successfully tested in the U.S. anti-missile laser plane based on the Boeing 747. However, few know that a quarter of a century ago in the Soviet Union was successfully tested combat aircraft with a cw lasers system. ...
Stay with trucks/tanks

The NKC-135A HEL program was running in the mid 70s;

High Energy Laser Directed Energy Weapons

747 is a more recent platform. Any guess how the Commies got into the airborne laser business?
