Seriously,
It's going to depend on if you want to be able to drive/use it legally or not. A lot of folks on here get classic or antique plates and classic insurance. But that route limits the amount you can drive the vehicle and use it legally.

Personally, I called some insurance companies, you might try the farm bureau in your state and ask them about insurers who deal in larger trucks for farms. They'll be able to quote you prices for a commercial insurance policy. My commercial policy runs me just under $200 a year. I also am licensing mine as a commercial truck.

Good luck it all depends on the under righters in ea state. They can say yes to one state, then at the same company in the neighboring state say no. I am battling with it now.

state farm $450 every 6 months, and thats 250/500/100k coverage. commerical policy. and im a 21yo male with an AT fault wreck, no ticket.

in comperison, my landcruiser is 1600/6months. hence why i cancled the cruiser and DD the deuce, cash saved should be more then enough to pay repairs/extra fuel costs, altho it only gets lke 2mpg less then my cruiser.

I'm 16, live on a farm and right now pay $200/mo for insurance on my K10(in my sig). Would it be worth it for me to get a deuce and drive it instead of the K10? I'm trying to figure out if it is worth it because of the cost of tires on a deuce, parts cost, etc. Plus the initial purchase cost. It would be my DD/worker/hauler. I dont do much hauling though. And I would eventually bob it and modify it a lot.

The cost of keeping a Deuce reliable as a daily driver will quickly add up. If you get a Deuce, and I hope you do as they are alot of fun, make sure you have something else as a daily driver.2cents

when i bought my truck i swapped out all my fluids, had radiator flush, changed all gear/tran/transfer case oils, engine oil, brake fluid. the radiator flush cost me bout 135 bucks. had tons of 80/90 gear oil so i dont really know how much it would cost, spend bout 100 on the oil change, 100 or so to have the brakes done by a professional ( i dont trust me self enough to risk other peoples lives) and the diesel to run it, put over 3400 miles on it since i got, havent had an issue yet, but i saved 1200 bucks on my first insurance payment that an put towards repairs so for me it works out, for you cutting your fuel mileage in half may not be so smart, i only lost like 1-2mpg max.

edit - last fill up took 43 gallons of diesel, i went 404 miles before i had to fill it up. so thats like what 9mpg?

You can get one from GL for $1000 - $3000 depending on the options you want. you can buy from a private seller for a little more, but you wouldn't have to go through all of the GL crap. Most of the private sellers go over the trucks and fix everything and change the fluids/filters. Take a look at the classifieds here on SS there are plenty of trucks that members are selling for reasonable prices. I got my first truck from a private seller and it made things alot easier since I could just hop in and cruize instead of buying a GL truck and guessing at if it even ran.

I get 7-11 MPG depending on traffic and Idle time.

Fellas, I am not trying to be rude (especially since the poster is new and may not know his way around the site), but come on! This has been covered so far in depth we could write a book about it!

It took me about 90 seconds to find all these:

And if anyone wants to argue with me that it doesn't hurt anything to regurgitate info, actually it does. So many threads, all covering the same topic make it difficult to search and find answers. A search for Deuce insurance brings up 14 pages of results.

Well said Clinto. Since joining the site I now search first and ask later. Is it perfect? No, but then again the old timers don't get on me about not searching first. ;-)

It seems like we don't have two full weeks go by before someone asks about:

a. How much does a Deuce cost?
b. How much is insurance for a Deuce?
c. Do a need a CDL to drive a Deuce?
d. How can Gimpy's trucks leak so much oil?

(Okay, maybe not so much on that last one.) :)

Search is your friend.

First let me say I love this site and really thing who ever has done it h as done a GREAT job but has anyone ever thought about putting the Seach window at the top of the page? I just know I never saw it for a while that is untill I got my head bit off and then I looked better and found it. Not to say it was not MY fault because it was I should have looked better but for new people it might be easier if it were at the top instead of having to scrloe down to find it/ I say this with the ut most respect that I can and love this site and am very greatful for the things I have learned here and hope to continue to learn and hopefully some day I can share also. Thank you for SS.
