Are the 3053 and the 3053a the same (5 speed overdrive). I seen for sale posts both ways.

Basically yes. There is reports that one has a slightly different O/D ratio than the other, but they are the overdrive trans.

I've got a straight 3053 in my truck. It is an overdrive trans. I can't tell any difference in driving it compaired to trucks with the 3053a.

they all take the same parts. what the 'a' means may be a mystery.
