Do I Really Need All This Grease!

I will be checking/ repacking the front bearings this week. Do i really need to put tons of grease on the axle shaft u-joint? Ive seen others do this. It seems to me that what u pump into the u joint is all you need. thanks.

You don't need to pack around the u joint with grease. now if is a CV joint yes you do.

Some say add the grease and some say don't. When I did mine I put the grease back in there. I was worried about the thrust washer lubrication. The military must have thought the grease needed to be there too. When I tore mine down the housing was full of grease.

Just remember, the more you put in, the more it will liquify/separate and run out your boots if they are less than perfect.

I do this on a professional level and my 2 cents says no you don't need to put all that grease back in. But at that I even put a little back in.

play it safe and use a tube or so but I dont think you need the 5 lbs.
