Hello. I’ve been lurking the forums for a while. I’m a big fan of CUCV’s and M880’s. I figured I would share my current rc build. It’s a work in progress. A few exterior details need to be finished as well as the interior. I’ll share progress as I go.

The chassis is a RC4WD Trailfinder 2 and the body is all 3d printed.

i see you chose the less-common 1976 version .. very nice build ! .. the BO drive light cutout should involve the next tier up on the grille , and what is the cutout over at far side of grille supposed to represent ?

Thanks!

I put the blackout light how it was in my reference photos

The second cutout is access to the hood lock. I saw a few trucks of this era like this. I figured it was a fun thing to add.

well i'll be ! I have not seen grilles hacked out like that for a hood lock .. :D .. None of the 880's in my units had any locks.. However I have an M880 and M890 in the yard with bolted external hasps for a hood lock, immediately above the grille..

Glad to see you went by photos , i stand corrected, the BO light appeared lower on your model than i recall , even if it is on a '76 grille.. However, upon checking a pic of my 1977's grille just now, the BO light is indeed in center line of headlight , as it appears in your 1976 versions.. You are correct.... carry on ! ;) .. i think this is telling me it's late and time to hit the hay before i open my mouth again :ROFLMAO:

Haha no worries. And I definitely don’t claim this truck to be 100% accurate in any way. But I did try to add things I saw as lurked the M880 threads. Being new to the military vehicle world sometimes I wasn’t sure what parts should be there and what stuff might have been done after service. And then it also seems that even the military had a fair amount of variation for what they did.

The general look I was going for was an M882 that’s been retired and then restored and modified a bit by a civilian owner. This truck was my main inspiration.

The issue with the M880 series trucks varying from year to year of production was a lesson hard learned for the military. Logistics were difficult to keep up when different year models of "the same truck" had different parts. That is why the subsequent Chevrolet CUCV trucks were all 1984 models, regardless of year of production.

Cheers
