The mast was mounted with the aid of our 1938 Oshkosh (#1097) wrecker/gin pole truck. Hyster wasn't tall enough to make it easy. Waiting on new roller bearings shipped out today for the fork carriage which needed rebuilding we discovered before getting the forks pinned back on and putting her in service again. Pretty soon it will be the "Lift King" of our sand box. The old Hyster and Oshkosh can share that title for another week maybe. LOL, if only DH lived closer!

Liftking 20C Rough Terrain Container Handler

both forklifts have forks set as close together as they go.jpg Poked the carriage, forks and pin shaft into the shop with the 15k Hyster (also ex-military ex New York State property!) wearing 9' fork extensions that prove handy for carrying things 90° to the norm like how i handed the carriage to the towmotor in the shop. The little (5000 lb) towmotor forks look pretty petite holding the 8' wide carriage. Everything is so big and heavy that the lightest piece even, the fork pin shaft, had to be held with the engine hoist while being "tapped" in with a sledge hammer.
what bearings.jpg Ended up replacing all 8 of the carriage roller bearings with shiny new ones. The thought of putting the bottom of a 40' container 18' in the air right over your head has to influence maintenance and operation! So anyways, went from some bearings totally shot to all new now. new bearings.jpgTook a few hours working alone to get the carriage hanging from the lift chains inside the mast. The main problem is getting a come along rigged or other method to pull the twin lift rams down as they only come down by gravity and just the inner mast isn't enough. Once a couple tons of forks and carriage were hanging it comes down nicely. Haven't had the time to make some cool test picks but very soon....!
IMG_20141201_143713_330.jpgIMG_20141201_143758_295.jpg It's difficult to get a good perspective of it. Its pulled up about 8' behind a big Autocar Holmes 750 wrecker. With the forks 18' in the air they don't look 8' long and thats as close together as they go. Next week we should have a 20' container to play with. Might pick and carry a BE 10B shovel shovel in two stages. In the coming days I want to set it on some railroad ties and then wait until the ground freezes up some so we don't rut it all up with the ground soft and wet right now.
