Doghead relay question for 12v

My M1009 was converted (not sure if done properly) to 12v. By that I mean it only is running one alternator yet there are two batteries daisy chained to one another.
The previous owner installed a push button start switch to bypass the ignition cylinder. My 09 previously started intermittently and sometimes I has to jump a wire from the red to the purple wire on the stater relay to start the truck. After letting the truck sit for a while the batteries drained (the guys moving it around left the key on the on position) and flattened both batteries. I tried to jump it today and the starter made all kinds of noise not engaging the flywheel but not cranking the engine.
Since I'm not running 24v can I still do the mod and will it help me? Thank you.

As in two alternators? I did the mod anyway today and I'm running two batteries. The noise i was hearing was a starter bolts not even fastened all the way by the prior DA owner. I got to get under my truck a bit today and boy does it look nice under there.

I would keep the truck going the way it is and not convert back to 24 volt unless you wish to return the truck to it's original configuration. You can buy parts locally the way it is now. I like lifetime warranty parts.

This is blasphemy to some, but I converted my truck to 12 volt using the Roscommon method. It starts easier even when I let it sit all week in the cold. I am still waiting for full winter to see if I will keep it this way. So far I prefer the 12 volt system over the 24 volt.

You may want to replace your starter bolts as it is possible they came loose on their own. Your flywheel is a flexplate because your truck has an automatic trans.
