Hi I am wondering how to bypass the mechanical fuel pump and add an electic pump. It must be bypassed do to a leak. And I am getting ready to leave on a trip. Thanks

Just put a hose from the frame rail to the metal line going up the block bypassing the mechanical pump.

The quickest thing to do if you are on a time crunch might be to replace the stock mechanical one as it requires no wiring or rearranging of fuel lines.

Adding the electric pump requires mounting it to the frame and running the fuel line up to bypass the mechanical one. It also requires wiring in a switch for the pump, or using an existing ignition switched source to make sure the pump is only on when the truck is on.

Also leaving the old one on may not be good if it's already failed. It may grenade and then you could loose a large amount of engine oil and. Normally when the swap is made you put a cover plate on the stock location on the block to keep oil in.
