Have had an electric temp sensor in place of the glow plug temp sensor on the back of the driver side head for the past 5 years at least. It's been fairly accurate, 180-190s after extended driving.
Past few days it's suddenly reading low,not going over 140* ever. Temp goes down to low 100s any time I'm moving.
Replaced thermostat right away, no change. Gauge seems to work properly, no ground issue, good continuity in the sensor wire.
Got an IR thermometer. After driving a good amount, the crossover pipe reads in the 190s, upper radiator hose 160-170s. Cool, thermostat is working.
Aside from shelling out for a new sensor/gauge (cause I can't remember what brand I used before) Is there anything else that can cause a sudden temp drop like this at supposedly the hottest part of the coolant loop?
