Exhaust leak?

I looked at a deuce today and it sounded like it had a exhaust leak. When we hit the throttle it looked like some exhaust was coming out of the crankcase breather adapter. Is this just bad gaskets or does it mean somthing else? Thanks for your help in advance, this is a great site, very knowledgeable and helpful people, greatly appreciated.

There is very little crankcase pressure from blowby and the gasket at the "adapter" on top shouldn't leak other than some oil perhaps.
Fumes from the breather tube is normal, more if the truck has been idling a lot.....

If you think there is an exhaust leak, drive it a bit, a black streak will develop. Just follow that and you'll find your leak.

I looked at it again and it looks ( and sounds) like there is a leak (exhaust?) coming from below the crankcase breather adaptor, between the two valve covers? Has anyone had this and what is the remedy? Could it be a head gasket ? Thanks!
