farm tractors

did the military ever use farm tractors.... got asked that at a tractor show the other day and I have a 8N ford........ can't seem to find anything on a web search but you never know..... would feel better if I could paint everything on my place OD..... I remember one at a show that was armored... but maybe there were more used.... there are a lot of support vehicles and equipment not talked about much.....

Minneapolis Moline supplied a number of them in the 40's. All had special tags and seperate indetification numbers. Some were painted different, what ever the Govt wanted them painted.

I have seen a Ford 8n/9n with large rear tractor sized ndt tires at a salvage yard near Quincy Florida at Parramore (sp?). I believe it was a rusty green and this was around 5-6 years ago. Sorry no pictures...

Ford made the BNO 40 tug that was based on a 9N/2N,

My Dad was in the 3rd Attack/Bomb Group in the Southwest Pacific. Shipped out to Australia and New Guinea in Jaunary 1942 and returned in 1945.
In the background of one of the photos my family has of one of the airfields is a Farmall farm tractor. I remember asking my Dad about it and he said that they used it to pull stuff around.
That was all I got out of him on that - he would rarely talk about his time overseas.

In WW2 John Deere built a couple armored Model A's and submitted them for testing by the Military. They had two machine guns mounted on them . They failed the test and were not built. The main failure was the guns field of fire could take out the tractors rear tires. There are articles in Two Cylinder magizen and pictures.

They use farm tractors I got a intrnation case 86 Hp I run it every day I can send you pic of the army paint job if you would like, seams like folks remember me because of the paint job Call that army guy he will put his tractor to that job, works good for me.

The 9N/2N tugs were also known as "Moto-tugs"
