Looks like these and all the ancillary parts are coming on the market. Apparently they run Linux and Windows 7. For those of you that have used one (I'm too old to have been exposed to this), is this system usable as a PC, or is the software so embedded that the only thing it will do is Blue Force Tracking? Clearly the BFT software will never be usable by civilians.

Runs redhat linux, if you find one running windows 7 it's not original. Last tracking system that used windows was the MTS and it ran Windows NT 4.0. Since the move to FBCB2 / BFT it's been redhat linux all the way. More secure, more reliable, less overhead, and it didn't cost the government anything for licensing fees.

It is a full computer, the software is stored on a removable hard drive. Problem with trying to run a windows os is drivers, linux will work out of the box. Just don't expect lighting speed, it was a purpose build so it has exactly what it needs, no more.

It would be fun to have it run another system or be able to do other things. Missing in that picture is the DAGR mount. should be on that plate facing out.
