Made my first trip with the 2004 M1088A1, Stoughton 42 ft trailer full of corn. 80000 pounds. 330 hp handled the load a lot better than I thought it would. It gets to 55 quickly and was running about 58mph on flat ground. It has a much smoother ride than my 400 hp M915A1 trucks. The automatic exhaust brake (muffled for in town use!) is outstanding! The M915A1 trucks run 68mph with 395/85x20 tires and definitely get up to speed faster but the low gears and seven speed auto makes the M1088A1 a lot closer in performance than the 70 hp disparity would lead you to believe. Very easy to drive!

I ran an even 58 mph coming home weighing 28700 pounds empty. The engine cooling fan comes on every 45 seconds and runs for almost 30 seconds. It is pretty loud. It engages at roughly 215 degrees and brings the temp down to approximately 195 degrees. Apparently there is not much natural air flow thru the radiator. Anybody looked into a way to duct more air thru the radiator when the truck is driving? Love the spacious cab with three nice m16 racks.

I had a similar problem. Change out your thermostat (16 bucks at my cat dealer, belts are 4) and your belts. I added a water wetter from walmart, 2x bottles, that helped too.

Nice to see one actually worked. They are real nice trucks. I was surprised how much power the 1088a1 had over the first gen 1088 tractors. I saw that one in TX, thats where I got mine. You have to do the driveshaft hinging test mine had excessive play in one u joint and the front driveshaft slip joint. Very easy to throw a driveshaft especially under load at 58mph.

330hp is top of the range for the 3126. Reserved for emergency vehicles and alike that need short runs of high hp. You may be able to turn the power up aftermarket but it's not advisable on these motors.
