A longshot, I know, but does anyone have pictures of any radio installations for the M656/XM757 8x8's?
In service with the Pershing units in Europe, they convoyed and must have had radio communications IMHO...could be wrong, radio blackout....
I don't see any antennas, though.

Thanks,

I was in Germany in the early 70's in a signal unit. We did not have radios in most of our vehicles. The command vehicles had them (BN cmdrs, Co cmdrs, SGM, 1st Sgts) and the radio retrans trucks had them. When we convoyed we followed the instructions of the convoy commander and had pre-arranged stops. If a vehicle broke down the maintainence vehicles would stop and get them (the wrecker did have a radio).
I have never been in a unit that had a radio in every truck (even a trans unit).
I was in a unit in Fort Benning and we convoyed to Fort Irwin, Ca in M915's. All of us that had them installed CB radios in our trucks and we spaced them throughout the convoy. It took us five days to get there.
The missle units you refer to probably had a communications section within it to maintain contact with the headquarters element and to coodinate fire missions.
I think I remember seeing these vehicles since I traveled a lot while I was there.

Thanks, Wreckerman, it makes sense. The cab is huge on these things, but with the engine, spare tire, air intake filter, heater, ducting, batteries and two seats, still not a lot of space for a radio.
