Am I the only one upset by this rip off? Isn't it bad enough that our men and women have dies for all of these other countries that now will steal our designs? Friend or foe it doesn't really matter, our tech will always be allowed into the hands of our foes. For a long time now China has been building a version of the HEMTT and then we "sold" them the HMWVV design. Not to get amm gloom and doom, but seriously, do we want our own designs used against us someday? Our people have already paid the ultimate price for these countries, let them design their own equipment.

Given the cosmetic similarities I wonder if they have an agreement with AM General regarding the design or parts sourcing.

If something works people are going to copy it. Look at the M60 machine gun...look at the Mg42 machine gun....very similar and in this case we were the ones doing the coping.

Gentlemen:

I know a few of you will get upset at this copy of the HMMWV, but does anyone remember Lenin's statement "that the capitalists will sell the rope that they (the USSR) will use to hang us with?" China's been doing it all along, and guess how many of us happy little capitalists in the name of greed will buy at Walmart and send our manufacturing jobs to China..... For a while there the US Army was buying its berets from China....Will we never learn? The Government pays for the tooling for the original machine(s) like the Jeep and the M35A2, then they allow the manufacturers to retain the tooling, often to make up knock offs (M38A-CJ3;M38A1-CJ-5) to sell to use here in the states, or to sell the tooling overseas when we are "done" with it.
I do not wish to step on toes, but most of us are guilty of not patronizing the local merchant or manufacturer to save a few pennies, then we wonder why we don't have jobs for the workers, outside of service industries, any more. Between you, I and the wall, somebody's gotta make something here in the States before we can buy new cars, houses and such, and as long as we allow the multinationals to play us off against the workers all around the world, we're just in a race for the bottom, as someone always will work for less somewhere to turn out more shoddy workmanship....
How does this fit in a military vehicle thread....WHO has the original tooling for the M38A1, the M35A2, the M-1 Garand, or lately the M16? Next it will be the F16/16/18..... Me, I'm a little worried about the outcome in the end....

There was a story about some computer chips supplied to the US government that upon examination had been "hacked" where someone could turn them off remotely. I believe it turned out that the contractor had them made in China per the article.

Unbelievable that we would design weapon systems and then have them built in china to save money.

I have seen these up close and personal. We had one setting at Tallil Maintenance for about 2 months back in the middle of 2008. It was just a little "off" compared to a HMMWV. Can't be any worse of a vehicle than a HMMWV though.

I seen someone say something about a rip-off of the HEMTT, there is all different types of those style of vehicles out there, go to youtube and you will see guys all over the world using them for rock crawling competitions, yes, i said that right, rock crawling, its crazy...

And we are no worse than them. We stole the design of the MRAP from the South African's, they had MRAP's during the Border Wars in the 70's...
