Front Axle Seal Failure

We'll guys my duece down right now. After playing in the snow last month, I developed a gear oil leak. Its on the passager side front axle. After some research I have concluded its the inter axle seal. I went ahead and ordered all new seal ands boots (no zipper, silcon yellow) for the entire front axle. Came with brake cylinder repair kits too.

Given the amount of fluid coming out i am concerned that a bearing may have gone bad. Any thoughts?

Using Gear oil 80-90 MT-1

Repair is scheduled for 4-03-10, my future brother inlaw works for Hendrix Motor sports and is going to give me a hand.

looks like fun. get the socket that fits the bearing nuts. it will help a lot. if the front end ever did the shimmy then I'd do all 4 knuckle bushings too.

Doing the whole axle is wise as it makes driving out the inner seals soooo much easier. This is not a difficult job IMO.

I have got to do this as well so I will be watching this thread closely.

It sounds like your brother has a pretty good job going for him. I hope he is working for Jimmy, Jeff or Mark because poor old Dale Jr is having a hard time getting going.

If you can, document your process with lots of photographic evidence. It will help others (like myself) navigate through the minefield behind you.

Good luck and keep up posted please.

Do yourself a favor. Check your axle vents. If they are plugged, the axle will build pressure and guess where its gonna give?

I agree the importane of the vents, I went ahead and replaced all the vents axles, tc, and transmission.

I have the 3" socket got from grainger, bearing grease packer, stands..

Should I go ahead and order the bearing?
