Fuel Filter Confusion

Hello,
I have a 2001 M1097A2 and have a couple questions. The vehicle has been at WW Wiliams since the end of April while the fuel injector assembly is being rebuilt. I thought that since I am remanufacturing the fuel injector assembly, it seems like a good idea to replace the fuel filter.

I have read that 2001 was a transition year for the engine with some Humvee's running the Detroit Diesel and others utilizing the Duramax 6.5. The engine is connected to a TH400 tranny.
The Stanadyne fuel injector assembly number is DB2-831-5149. I attached a photo the part. Based on the scrawled in number on the ID plate, it looks like it was a different model at some point and somebody used the housing to rebuild it as a 5149. The number on the fuel injector assembly indicates that the engine is the Duramax 6.5. If anyone can confirm or deny this that would be great to know the engines make and model.

I am trying to figure out what is the OEM replacement filter for this engine. I believe it is a Stanadyne 33642. Can anyone confirm this? Also, I see that an FM100 fuel separator is a fit for this engine but it looks like a stand alone piece that doesn't use the existing filter housing.

Is the Stanadyne 33642 an OEM replacement? What is a fuel separator and what are the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing this piece?

I am a car guy but this Humvee is a whole different animal.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Keith

Welcome to the fun.

The data plate from the Injection pump you posted is for a 6.2 diesel engine. The 8 3 1 means 8 cylinder .31” plunger. A 6.5 diesel injection pump would have 833 in that section for a .33” plunger. I don’t know what engine you have but you have the injection pump for a 6.2.

When Chevy stopped making the 6.2/6.5. AM General starter a new company called General Engine Products. GEP made new 6500 Optimizer engines for new production HMMWV’s and replacement engines for older ones. There should be a white GEP sticker on the valve cover if you have such an engine. There are other casting marks and numbers as well.

I really appreciate the information. It has went through 2 online auctions, I didn't see GEP on the valve covers . If you have the time can you take a look at the photos and see if there are identifying numbers, stickers, etc.
I sent the fuel injector assembly into a place in Memphis for a rebuild. They are really slow. If this was your Humvee and it is a 6.5 would you purchase that assembly? Appreciate your help.

I can’t tell from the pictures which engine you have. Here is an article with pictures that shows the biggest difference:
