Fuel Filters....... Okay, I give up........

Can anyone tell me where the primary fuel filter is on a deuce???

We were doing the fluid/filter change today and did the secondary and final fuel filters (the ones all the way aft on the driver's side of the block) But we can't seem to find where in the system the smaller primary filter sits.

I"ve looked over the deuce manuals we have on CD, but can't seem to find the section pertaining to off-motor filters. We were trying to trace the lines from the tank all the way up to the injectors, since it has to be SOMEWHERE between the two, but daylight ran out on us

Any help would be appreciated

It's the last one we have to change out, we got the oil filters swapped out for fresh ones, and have new 30W oil in the crankcase.

(You shoulda seen the look on the guy's face at the auto parts store when we asked for 22 quarts of it)

Primary fuel filter on the deuce is located on the passenger side just forward of the axle between the frame rail and engine block. It's kinda a PITA to get to.

Dieselsmoke is correct on the location!

You will have to loosen the bolt for the alternator, and move it up out of the way to access the bolts for the primary housing! <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_angry.gif" alt="Angry"><img src="speech/icon_speech_ugh.gif" border="0">

It is a pain in the A$$ to get to, and you will need crowsfoot wrenches to make it easier!

The most important part, is to drain the primary filter FREQUENTLY, to keep from having to change the filter very often! <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_puke.gif" alt="Puke">

Rember to use a torque wrench to tighten the sleeve nut to 15 ft-lbs on the primary housing!

The same goes for the secondary and final filter housing!

Happy wrench'in <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_rotfl.gif" alt="ROTFL">

If someone is interested, Car Quest has a fuel filter base plate and spin on filter for the
primary fuel set up. We us them on our fire dept. deuces and only chang them once a year and run them all year long. If interested I'll post the number - just yell back and I'll pull them from my file in the gun room. If no one is interested I'll forget it.
