fuel injection pump compensator?

Hi Yall! i have been looking in my tech manual and can't seem to find any info on this subject, ( just overlooking it im sure) but someone gave me 200 gal. of cooking oil and i would like to use it, but there's a big yellow sticker on the side of one of my oil filter canisters that reads " use diesel fuel only,fuel injection pump compensator has been by-passed to prevent fuel dilution of engine oil,instructions are attached to reconnect the compensator in case of the emergency use of other fules"

i have read in a post some where that even though the comp.is by-passed, other fules can still be used, is that so? how do i tell if it's still by-passed? (cant find any instructions). how does this comp. work and why would it cause fuel dilution of the engine oil? any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes its still a multi fuel.. the comp is only to make the power out put the same on all fuels. but its till good to roll man cook away

Mine has the same sticker and I just havent posted the same question yet. Im glad you did. I hope we hear from some other SS members who have had experiences with the compensator being bypassed and using alternative fuels.

You can still use the engine as a multi fuel, your not going to be able to tell the difference in power out put with it bypassed.

Yup, the fuel density compensator has NOTHING to do with the motor being able to run other fuels. The motor's pistons, swirl chamber, and injector angles(and real high compression) make it a multifuel.

My compensator is bypassed as well and I was told that in order to run it on all the non-diesel junk I want to put into it that I'd have to reconnect the compensator but the reason they were bypassed is due to the compensator seals leaking after a while. So should I not reconnect it?

"seals leak" must be the reason for fuel diluted motor oil.

how can you tell if it's still by-passed?

Check the fuel lines above the compensator. If the line at the FDC inlet makes a loop into itself like in the top half of that first photo it's bypassed. If the line from the final fuel filter goes into that inlet instead, it's not bypassed, like in the bottom half of that first photo.
