Fuel pump issues

Decided to try and find why the pump was inoperable, found a number of issues.

Suspect 1 was a blown fuse, so ignoring that completely I pulled the pump out of the tank and boy was I glad I did, either the p/o didn't use submersible fuel line or he did and my use of pump diesel ate the submersible nitrile. The black dots all over the pump in the pics below are small rounds of rubber that peel off when scraped with a fingernail. Thankfully the fuel that leaked out of the supply line to the truck was clear of debris, we'll see what the filters look like, but hopefully it's contained to the pump and that's what caused it to overheat and snap the fuse, which I verified blown while separating the pump from the carriage.

Tank is beautiful, can see clear to the bottom and I don't have anything growing, just a little sediment to filter out.

Moral of the story, check the in tank supply hose once in a while, and if you're using pump diesel, use a hose made of fluroelastomer, biodiesel won't hurt it, at least that's what I read.

Silly question, since I have no way to provide 24v outside of the truck, if I hit this pump with 12v, will it run at half capacity, backwards, or not at all?

Also, has anyone tried to drill the rivets and pop one of these open? If after refurbishing the electrical supply system (4 screws, a ground tab and a fuse) the pump doesn't pump, I would rather do that and attempt a deep clean/refurbish than throw the pump away.

I am of the opinion that it might run - but it will heat up quickly.
I think it will smoke the motor running it on 12v.
Deep cleaning it might work...

There does not seem to be much in the way of rebuildable components for the in-tank fuel pump:

What some members have done is to replace the in-tank pump with a 24V external in line pump and that seems to work quite well. Some reading: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/24v-inline-fuel-pump.61149/page-3#post-2422973

You can provide 24V outside of the truck with 2 car batteries:

I might try the batteries on the ground, if necessary. After reading through both of those links I'm confident that the pump will run after some carb clean and the fixes mentioned above. Not a lot in them to fail
