Fuel pump problem

I start my deuce about once a week because I can't drive it with no rear axles under it. But lately I have to give the fuel pump in the tank a little love tap with a hammer to get it to kick on. Is this because of the current lack of use or do I need to look at replacing it? Nothing urgent, won't have a rear axle under it or prolly another month.

It might be something as simple as a bad wire/fuse connection under the cap on top of the pump where the wires go to it. I would check that first.

Yup, check the connections in the fuse holder area. Might need to pull the pump and clean it up. Mine had some crud in the screens.

Dito, check the fuse and wiring plug on top of the pump. My pump had crud on the intake screen too.

FYI if you decide to pull the pump the Phillips head screw are a pain to remove from the top plate.

Ok so I have a 62' M-61 and it has the LDS in it. How much fuel pressure do I need to have in order to run the engine? This truck does not have an in-tank pump. There is a small canister pump wired in just behind the drivers front tire. The tank has no electrical connector on it. Just a 3/8 out line and a 5/16 return line. I am having a running problem so maybe I am not getting enough fuel pressure from the little canister pump
