G749 preservation

G749 Parts

Hit the brother load, not quite the mother load.

These parts sit up north in trailers and I saw Moose, Deer as well as Willys, CJ-5 and 6x6 written on a pile of NOS and used stock. This might be the year where I help the owners dig more out but for now I grabbed some G749 gear.

I did find spare tie-rod ends and will donate to committed preservation projects. Need to check for left/right but I saw 10-15 pc's.

New fuel caps! I don't recognize the round style so if anyone knows what the dome style cap is off of maybe we can find a proper home for it.

G749 Parts Preservation

We had some great help at the G749 farm over the weekend from a couple of Steel Soldier members. Once again, a toast to Steel Soldiers for the cool electronic way to link up with good folk.

We got trucks moved, fuel filters changed, timing adjusted on Goose, M211 fuel drained/ engine prep, sea cans emptied, shelves up, canola planted/ fertilized, air-strip seeded and still had time fly the mosquito. The best part of the weekend was some 6X6 driver training with a teen-age wimpy, painted nails niece that threw the deuce around the trails like a truck-driver. Her face-book page will look pretty cool this week and I am one proud uncle. Never thought this one would ask to drive the deuce.

Finally starting to get some shelves up and begin unpacking some of the gems saved from the other shop. Just need some spark-plugs and wires to fill the shelves.

Good show old boy and lots of fun on this one .......I personnaly like the radicals as they ride better.....been saveing lots of time rideing on the ods....M35A2 of mine came with them ...old ari force truck...New goodyears..she is great...now if I can only find the key for it again ....grandkids like to play with it....good looking truck and recovery mate....good on ya ..

Yes it will, although I think I read somewhere that you have to change the master cylinder to an M35 cylinder as well, due to a check valve that is on the M35 that is not on the M135.

The local Base Maintenance replaced the master and airpack a couple years ago on the base museum's M133. They installed both the airpack and the master from the M35 and it was without issue. Several lines did have to be extended to fit the smaller version of the airpack which is issued these days.

M211 Window removal

Found a minute to get on the M211 and pull the front windows for some new glass and frames waiting at the window shop. This is the forth truck I pulled windows out of and the first one that came apart easy. Had to show off the shiny fasteners that came out clean so I have some faith again in the channel above the window.

Part of the CFR was chiseled into the tailgate already so I don't mix them up when I put all my tailgates in a big pile. It is set up with ramp slots so it was special purpose at one time.

Then Goose finally got a chance to pose the the Mighty M931 after some muddin' so here are a few photos.

Rear Seal

Had a plan to drive 40 miles into town and I'm not sure if it was the excitement of leaving the farm or the fear of the highway but Goose started dripping steady between the engine and bell-housing while parked at the gate.

Need to add a section in the TM's showing the oil capacity of the bell-housing right around 2 litres.

Engine oil down and trani level up is a good sign the transmission isn't leaking.

Plan b was a ride on the 14,000lb trailer and without canvas we hit 13,139.55lbs. Scaled in at..........

After a good trip and a bath Goose fired up and spit the famous black soot all over the white Chev. Never park on the down-wind exhaust side of an Early Deuce.

With the 100th Anniversary of our PPCLI coming http://www.ppcliassoc.ca/index_100thAnniversary.htm I was hoping to represent with the 135 but we've got some decisions to make.

Anyone have a can of Rear-Seal Stop-Leak on the shelf?

Endura Paint

Goose was a mess out at the farm

so I needed to SPEND some time cleaning her up and PAY some attention to her. The Endura paint has had a tough test recently so it's a good time to see how it's holding up. After paint in 2010, Goose spent the first year in a tent, two years in a heated shop and one season of complete abuse caked in mud.

The fender rust had started before the paint and I should have beat that lip closed underneath and that would have slowed things down. So check your lips and beat them flat before you paint.

The new Ash wood on the troop seats is showing some signs of peeling and the original wood that we lightly blasted seems to have held up like plastic.

I'm sure the kids primed with a green Primer so I'm guessing we could have made it thinner to get some better penetration. Painting Wood sucks.

I have no idea what this thing is on the wood?
Those are the pins for adjusting the height of the bows. The 'L' shaped pin is held in place with a bracket and attached with a chain to the back 'board' 7397995 so we don't loose it. Holes are drilled in the 'tube' 7397996 at two different heights so the bows can be lifted and secured for tall blonds.

Is that Canada Specific and M135 only? Do you need a different tarp or would this be for use with a M211 tarp?
I never caught this before. Thanks

That is a really good question. I have a half dozen sets of troop seats so I need to look if they all have adjustments.

Maybe we can get some more American Early Deuce owners to chime in and tell us if they have holes in the posts or brackets on the boards????

My original canvas has additional width that folds down when the bows go high.

It may be that we kept running the deuce so long that our species evolved and got taller so we needed the adjustment. You guys saw it coming and went and got taller trucks.

Cmpman and a few other guru's up here might have some insight on when they were added.

Just sending a check down south for 3 covers that were found in a sea-can so we can compare canvas, once they get here.

MVPA Hometown Hero Welcome

In 2012, part of the American MVPA Alcan convoy stopped at a small, remote, northern airport to help us honor their Hometown Heroes. Two years later the folks that live there still talk about the overwhelming professionalism the MVPA displayed.

.....so they invited us back and treated us like kings with airport access, food, fuel, camping next to a taxiway and so much more.

We managed a three truck 'open' convoy with Goose taking the ride in the tail gunner position.
